Birdfy's Hum Bloom Captures Hummingbirds in Stunning Slow Motion
Birdfy has unveiled two innovative camera-equipped smart bird feeders that promise to revolutionize birdwatching. The Birdfy Hum Bloom and Feeder Vista are designed to attract and record hummingbirds and birds, respectively, with impressive features. The Hum Bloom uses a nectar bulb to mimic flowers, while the Feeder Vista employs a 360-degree camera and a bottom-up feeding system.
The Hum Bloom's 8MP camera captures 4K video at 20fps, but for slow-motion footage, it drops to 1080P at 120fps, which may not rival National Geographic-level quality. The feeder is designed to hang from a tree branch, featuring a hydraulic system to pump nectar into a feeding bulb, ensuring hummingbirds are always in frame. Sensors monitor nectar levels, and an 'ant moat' keeps insects at bay.
The Feeder Vista, inspired by DJI Osmo 360 and Insta360 X5, boasts a pair of back-to-back cameras capturing 14MP panoramic stills or 6K 360-degree videos at 30fps. Lowering the resolution to 2K enables slow-motion recording at 120fps, with the option to view single cameras for wide-angle views. Unlike other feeders, it uses an air-powered piston to push seeds, keeping the container out of frame.
Both feeders utilize Birdfy's LLM-powered OrniSense AI for bird identification. The Hum Bloom uses motion sensing, while the Feeder Vista employs a weight sensor to record only birds landing to feed, ignoring animals, cars, and people. Knowing a bird's weight improves AI accuracy in identifying species.
These smart bird feeders are set to be available in Q2 2026, but pricing remains undisclosed. With their advanced features, Birdfy aims to enhance birdwatching experiences, offering a unique perspective on the natural world.
