Leigh Leopards secure another major contract boost as star forward Owen Trout re-signs
The Leigh Leopards are in for more positive news as star forward Owen Trout has signed a new long-term contract with the club. This comes as a significant boost for the team and their future plans, especially with Trout being one of the star assets in their squad.
Trout, who had an outstanding campaign in 2025, was a free agent at the end of the season and had attracted strong interest from across the Super League. However, Love Rugby League has confirmed that Trout has now signed a multi-year contract with the Leopards, keeping him with the team for the foreseeable future.
This follows the recent news that Umyla Hanley had also signed a new two-year contract with the club, further strengthening the Leopards' squad.
Trout's journey to the Leopards began in 2024 when he joined the club, making 61 appearances and leaving a lasting impression with his performances. His success led to a call-up to England's Ashes squad, where he made his debut in the first Test against Australia.
Trout's talent had also drawn interest from the NRL, but sources indicate that his contract includes clauses allowing him to head overseas at certain points. For now, however, his focus remains with the Leopards, who are tipped to make another strong push in the upcoming campaign after a successful recruitment drive.
Before joining the Leopards, Trout played for the Huddersfield Giants, making 54 appearances over four seasons. In his time with the Giants, he showcased his versatility, scoring seven tries and demonstrating an ability to play in both the middle and at back-row positions.
The retention of Trout and Hanley is a significant achievement for the Leopards, especially given the interest from other Super League clubs, including Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC. This move solidifies the Leopards' position as a force to be reckoned with in the Super League.
