Heading to the snowy mountains? Beware of the I-17 Roadworks! 🧊🚧
This weekend, construction crews will be hard at work, which means travelers need to be extra cautious. From Friday to Monday morning, several closures and restrictions will be in place on Interstate 17, potentially causing delays for those eager to hit the slopes.
Here's the lowdown on the work zones:
- Interstate 17 Lane Narrowing: Between State Route 74 (Carefree Highway) and Anthem Way, both north and southbound lanes will shrink to one lane overnight on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 23-24) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for lane striping. Drivers, take note: this means you'll need to allow extra time and be ready to reduce your speed when approaching and passing through these zones.
But here's where it gets tricky: weather can be unpredictable. The schedule might change if conditions become unfavorable, so stay tuned for updates.
- Lane Restriping: In the same area, between SR 74 and Anthem Way, you'll encounter intermittent lane closures. Northbound, this will be during the day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Jan. 23-25) from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., while southbound closures will occur from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the same days. Caution is advised as these rolling closures may cause congestion.
And this is the part most people miss: the weather factor. Just like the previous work zone, inclement weather could lead to schedule adjustments.
- Road Closure in Southeast Valley: Arizona Avenue and Lindsay Road will be closed in both directions at Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Jan. 26) for a widening project. Detours are available via McQueen, Cooper, and Gilbert roads. Westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Arizona Avenue is also closed, so consider using the Alma School Road on-ramp instead.
Stay informed and plan your trip accordingly to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey. Remember, these roadworks are necessary to keep our roads in top shape! 🛣️
