Airlines have canceled over 1,000 flights at DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field in anticipation of a severe winter storm sweeping through North Texas this weekend. American Airlines, the central hub at DFW, saw 1,036 cancellations by 8:21 a.m., with nearly half attributed to the airline itself, which has canceled 501 flights.
Envoy Air and PSA Airlines, American's subsidiaries, canceled 337 flights combined. Southwest Airlines, headquartered at Love Field, canceled 136 flights, while Delta Air Lines canceled three flights at Love Field.
The storm's impact could be significant, with the National Weather Service's Fort Worth office issuing a Winter Storm Warning for North Texas, indicating a high likelihood of winter precipitation. As little as half an inch of ice on power lines can cause major disruptions.
Airlines are offering customers flight changes, and Governor Greg Abbott has declared a disaster, with forecasters predicting 1 to 3 inches of sleet and snow in Dallas. The situation highlights the importance of staying informed and prepared for weather-related travel disruptions.
